IT planning for peace of mind – Breakfast Seminar

IT security is constantly evolving; hence our drive to offer regular topical IT security seminars, to present the latest security developments and Cyber threats, and at the same time sharing current industry best practice.
Despite the early morning start for all, our breakfast seminar, kindly hosted by our client Hardwicke Chambers, was attended to full capacity.

This year, Owen O’Rorke, Associate from Farrer & Co, expert on Data Protection law and compliance matters, joined Instant On IT to speak more broadly about the much-talked-about subject of GDPR. Owen presented some of the ways small businesses can avoid becoming a target when it comes to the ICO’s new regulations. With six months to go, Owen went through some of the recommended practical steps to take between now and May 2018 to ensure organisations are GDPR-compliant.

Next on the agenda was our Founder and MD, Paul Coote, who advised on ‘IT planning for peace of mind’, taking into account GDPR’s impact on IT and Cyber trends. Paul emphasised that standing still is not an option. Security measures need to be adopted, driven ‘from the top’ and followed through, monitored and reviewed carefully and regularly. A central theme was the shift from feeling to fact when it comes to data security and retention, and the role of software and tools to facilitate the implementation of policy. Ultimately, IT security needs to become part of organisations’ culture to be effective in the long term.

As one can expect, there were lots of pertinent questions at the end of the seminar, and we know how much attendees value the Q&A.
